Symbiotic Interaction

Photographer Kristen Powell investigates institutions that focus on intellectual pursuits to articulate the intention and presentation of these environments.

Educational environments are perceived as conductors of essential information; therefore benefiting the public by providing an enlightened sense of awareness. I investigated institutions that focus on intellectual pursuits to articulate the intention and presentation of these environments. My photographs address human interactions within these spaces, while acknowledging society’s tendency to idealize these interiors. This series suggests an annotated perspective of institutionalized expectation in order to challenge the predetermined experiences they provide.
