2024 Aperture Portfolio Prize
Deadline: January 5, 2024

The Aperture Portfolio Prize aims to identify trends in contemporary photography and highlight artists whose work deserves greater recognition. It is open exclusively to Aperture magazine print subscribers. The first prize winner will be published in Aperture magazine and will receive a $3,000 cash prize, a $1,000 gift card to shop for gear at mpb.com, and an exhibition organized by Aperture in New York City.

What Can We Do?
Deadline: January 7, 2024

Presented by the Asian American Arts Alliance (A4), What Can We Do? is a grant for artists looking to support the Asian and AAPI communities in NYC with engaging, creative projects rooted in care. 18 NYC-based artists will receive $1,500 to create and carry out ideas to engage, aid, and care for the Asian New Yorker community with a focus on Chinatown, Manhattan; Flushing, Queens; and Sunset Park, Brooklyn.

UCLA Film & Television Archive Artist-in-Residence
Deadline: January 8, 2024

The UCLA Film & Television Archive’s inaugural artist-in-residence program will host an emerging artist for two weeks to activate the Archive’s collection in their artistic practice. The artist-in-residence will receive an honorarium of $8,000.

The Leah Ryan Fund
Deadline: January 8, 2024

All women, trans, and non-binary playwrights who consider themselves emerging are eligible to apply for The Leah. The winner will receive a cash prize of $5,000 and a public reading and summer workshop as part of the Powerhouse Theater Program at Vassar College. Plays must be written in English, and musicals are not accepted.

Lower East Side Young Artists of Color Fellowship
Deadline: January 9, 2024

FABnyc’s Lower East Side (LES) Young Artists of Color Fellowship invites artists of color working in any discipline to apply. Artists must be between the ages of 18 and 26 to be eligible. Eight accepted fellows for Spring 2024 will receive a $500 stipend.

Joshua Tree Highlands Artist Residency (JTHAR)
Deadline: January 10, 2024
$45 application fee

JTHAR fosters creativity through opportunities for exploring, experimenting, quiet reflection, engagement and cross-cultural exchange with the vibrant local artist community. Six artists at any stage of their careers will receive a $1,000 stipend, studio space, and living accommodations. Artists must be at least 21 years old.

Rauschenberg Medical Emergency Grants
Deadline: January 12, 2024

This program provides one-time grants of up to $5,000 for recent unexpected medical, dental, and mental health emergencies to artists in financial need who are creating in the visual arts, film/video/electronic/digital arts, and choreography. Only generative artists are eligible—artists creating their own, independent work, with recent and ongoing opportunities for the public to experience that work.

Booooooom Photo Awards
Deadline: January 12, 2024
Free for 1 image, $15 for up to 10 images to one category

Photographers are invited to submit their work to one of five categories: Portrait, Nature, Street, Colour, Shadows. Winners for each category will receive a $1,000 cash prize, editorial and social coverage, and a feature in a printed publication. All five winners (and 20 shortlisted photographers) will be featured in, and receive a copy of, a special mini photo publication.

Make-a-Mag Contest
Deadline: January 12, 2024

Brought to you by Hemlock Printers and Paper Chase Press, the Make-a-Mag contest will award one winner the chance to launch a magazine idea with a run of 250 copies.

Monson Arts Residency
Deadline: January 15, 2024
$25 application fee

This residency program supports emerging and established artists and writers by providing them time and space to devote to their creative practices. Five artists and five writers will receive a private studio, private bedroom in shared housing, all meals, and $1,000 stipend for 4-week programs ($500 for 2-week programs).

Abbott Watts Residency for Photography
Deadline: January 15, 2024
$25 application fee

Launched by Monson Arts in 2021, The Abbott Watts Residency for Photography was established to support imagination, innovation and creative risk-taking for artists using the photographic medium. Five awarded photographers will receive a private bedroom in shared housing, all meals, access to the photography studio located nearby in the town of Blanchard (Maine), and a stipend of $1,000 for 4-week residencies ($500 for 2-week residencies).

Media Arts Assistance Fund (MAAF) for Artists
Deadline: January 15, 2024

NYSCA in Partnership with Wave Farm will award New York State artists up to $7,500 to support the completion and/or public presentation of a new or recently completed media artwork. The proposed project must be in the final stages of creation (at least 75 percent) at the time of application, and ready for completion within the 2024 calendar year.

ZEKE Awards
Deadline: January 15, 2024
$30 application fee

Social Documentary Network (SDN) presents two ZEKE Awards. The ZEKE Award for Systemic Change (in partnership with the Foundation for Systemic Change) will award one photographer $2,500 and recognition of their outstanding visual stories documenting systemic changes leading to sustainable solutions to important issues affecting the world today. The ZEKE Award for Documentary Photography will award one photographer $2,500 and recognition of their success in documentary visual storytelling about any subject matter with an emphasis on themes that affect the global community.

Forge Fellowship
Deadline: January 17, 2024

This fellowship is open to artists, creators, makers, entrepreneurs, revolutionaries, and idea-havers. A project is not needed to apply. Fellows will receive $500, and bi-monthly touchpoints (like consultations and skill-building opportunities) paired with access to daily support systems (like a dedicated online hub and FORGE’s extensive suite of templates), creating a space for curiosity, commiseration, and celebration.

The Artist Project
Deadline: January 19, 2024

The Artist Project is a collaboration between the MFA and twelve after-school community organizations in the Boston area. Each year a new experienced artist with a passion for community arts plans and leads a project with children between the ages of six and twelve. The selected artist will receive a stipend of $25,000 and a budget of $5,000 for materials.

2025 Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition
Deadline: January 26, 2024
$50 application fee

This competition seeks to broaden the definition of portraiture and highlight the genre’s relevance in society and contemporary art. Artists 18 years or older are invited to submit portraits in any media for consideration. The first-prize winner will receive $25,000 and will be awarded a commission to portray a remarkable living American for the National Portrait Gallery’s collection.

Call for Artists: South Entry Sculpture
Deadline: January 29, 2024

The City of Sebastopol is seeking proposals from professional artists & artist teams living in the State of California for the design, fabrication, and installation of a permanent, original public art suitable for placement at the trailhead of the Joe Rodota Trail on Petaluma Avenue, which also marks the entry to Sebastopol’s downtown. The commissioned art will have a budget of $25,000.

All About Photo Awards, The Mind's Eye
Deadline: January 30, 2024
$30 for first 3 images, $5 for each additional image

The ninth edition of the All About Photo Awards is seeking submissions from photographers around the world. Winners will receive $10,000 in cash awards, extensive press coverage, and global recognition. The grand prize is $5,000. The competition is open to all genres and subject matters.

Recharge New Surrealist Prize
Deadline: January 31, 2024

The Recharge New Surrealist Prize is a $7,000 award for painters who are working in the New Surrealist Style and living in the United States and/or U.S. Territories. Painters must be 18 years or older.

Art in Public Spaces
For Connecticut Artists

The purpose of the Art in Public Spaces program is to provide the citizens with an improved public environment by investing in creative works of high quality in public buildings. Connecticut artists are invited to submit up to four images of available works of art for consideration to be displayed at the new School of Business at Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) and the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Western District Headquarters.
